All three doctors in the practice have
had specialist training in the provision of contraceptive services. Routine and
emergency contraception can be obtained by seeing the doctor.
If you feel uncomfortable about coming to us for your family planning needs, the
family planning association can also provide help and support.
You can access family planning services even
if you are under 16. We can assure you that consultations will be in
complete confidence
Emergency
contraception:
Please remember that for emergency contraception it is
best to seek medical attention as soon as possible. The "morning after pill"
must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse but the earlier
it is taken the more effective it is. The coil can also be used for emergency
contraception for up to 5 days after sex but is not a good choice for
women who have not had children.
If you want further information about
different types of family planning methods the
family planning association provides some of the best information available.
We carry a selection of their family planning leaflets at the surgery.
An alternative to coming to us for your
family planning needs is to go to the family planning clinic which is situated
at the St. Peter's Health Centre, Sparkenhoe Street, Leicester. This street is
situated behind the Leicester rail station. You can book an appointment to see
the doctor there by telephoning: (0116) 2951212 They run
appointment and walk in clinics. Ring them direct for details.
A family planning clinic also runs at the
Hinckley Health centre on Monday night between 6p.m. and 8 p.m. Telephone
(01455) 441800 to make an appointment
